Piety

There’s a saying where I come from,

they say a lot of things there.

Some are true. Some not.

Some are based on truth. Others not.

There’s a saying where I come from,

I come from far away,

Animals are on the road, like Men, there,

Animals are treated like Men there.

There’s a saying where I come from,

people like saying things there.

Some people are good. Some are bad.

Some people want to do good, but do bad.

This saying that I’ll tell you,

was said by someone there.

It wasn’t a saying when he said it,

He didn’t mean it when he said it.

Sayings develop meanings,

Sayers say sayings, people don’t

We have a lot of Sayers there,

The Sayers say a lot there.

You must wonder what I’m saying

about this saying that I haven’t said

But that’s how they say it at home

They say it all the time at home.

There’s a saying where I come from,

This saying says it all,

This saying is most worthy

The saying of them all.

P.S: The quote I came across that inspired this was by Omar Khayyam:

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it
